MSConfig for Windows 2000

Introduction

MSConfing is useful configuration tool from Microsoft. But it is available only on Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows XP. It is not provided with Windows 2000.

If you need its functionality you have two options. You can get a startup manager which may be better suited for your needs than MSConfig. Or you can get the msconfig.exe file from a Windows XP installation.

Getting a Startup Manager

In alternative to MSConfig you may use a startup manager. Most startup managers are easier to use and are geared towards the less experienced users. Have a look at InControl Startup Manager.

Getting msconfig.exe from Windows XP

You can get the msconfig.exe file either from a Windows 98 or a Windows XP installation. But the version of MSConfig in Windows XP is improved so we suggest you to get this one.

If you do not have a Windows XP you can download msconfig.exe here.

Once you have the msconfig.exe file navigate to your Windows system folder (it is most likely c:\winnt\system32\) and paste the file there.
